1. GENERAL QUESTIONS
1.1 What exactly is Snow Angels Stratford?
In short, a tool to connect those in Stratford who need assistance with shovelling snow to those who are willing and able to do it. For more information you can see our ABOUT US. Also feel free to contact us anytime with questions or for more information.
1.2 Is Snow Angels Stratford an initiative from the City of Stratford?
No, it isn't. While they are aware of the program, Snow Angels is supported by the Stratford Lakeside Active Adult Association, who felt that the program would be of benefit not just to their members, but to the community as a whole.
1.3 Wow. I just LOVE this idea - how can I get involved?
Currently the only ways to help are to register and agree to help to shovel or to let us know about people who may need help (with their permission of course) or simply spreading the good word.
1.3 How can I bring Snow Angels to my city?
There is only one way that we know of so far. Do what we did, bring it there yourself.
2. FOR SENIORS/PEOPLE IN NEED
2.1 What if I don’t want strangers shovelling my house?
Don’t register. It’s a simple as that. We have no intention of shovelling walks at random or against people’s will. This is simply a way to find people in your area to help if you’d like it. That being said, you will still have a chance to discuss the matter in advance with the potential volunteer via email before anything is actually done.
2.2 My lawn got dug up and I think my welcome mat is missing. What are you going to do about it?
Not much I’m afraid. While you can read a LOT more about this is in our TERMS OF SERVICE page, the fact remains that we are simply a tool to make the connection and are not responsible for damaged or loss of property. We hope and trust that you will use every precaution to protect yourself and your property as you would otherwise do. This entire project is built upon trust and faith in people to do the right thing. We hope and trust Stratford will pass this test. We are extremely sorry to hear this happened though.
2.3 Should I tip the nice person who just shovelled for me?
Our gut feeling is no. They volunteered to do it and you are under no pressure to tip them of give them a gift. There are plenty of people out there who will shovel your walk and laneway for money. Snow Angels are not those people. A heartfelt ‘thank you’ might be nice though.
2.4 This is great – anything I can do to help?
The pleasure was all ours. All we ask is that you spread the good word. Just tell friends, family and neighbours that we exist. We need to know about others who may need help and/or others who are willing to shovel. Social media, community groups, social clubs, the guy sitting next to you at the bus stop ... the only way this works is if people hear about us and I just officially made you an ambassador.
3. FOR SNOW ANGELS
3.1 I’m already doing this for my friends and neighbours – do I need to register?
Of course not. If you are high school student or someone who is trying to track volunteer hours there may be some benefit but it is completely optional. Feel free to carry on as you always have – but now with the knowledge you have a sincere thanks and appreciation.
3.2 How much money can I make doing this?
None. You can make zero money.
3.3 Will this count towards my volunteer hours?
We certainly hope so but the truth is we have no idea. We strongly encourage you to check with whomever you will be submitting you hours to in advance of becoming a Snow Angel. Once registered you will have the ability to download a form to track your own hours but whether or not they will be recognized we simply cannot guarantee. Better safe than sorry – check in advance. Either way, there is little question you’ll make an impact to someone and make your neighbourhood a kinder place?
3.4 What about as a local school board student - will they recognize my Snow Angel efforts?
We can’t see why it wouldn’t count as community service, but you should check with your school administration. There is no money changing hands and it supports community members in need.
3.5 I’ve hurt my back and/or had a heart attack – what are you going to do about it?
We would offer our condolences. While you can read a LOT more about this is in our TERMS OF SERVICE page, the fact remains that we are simply a tool to make the connection we are not responsible for any injuries that result from being a Snow Angel. You no doubt understand that shovelling and simply being outside in the winter can be hazardous and that your safety remains your responsibility. We do recommend going out a group (halo) for safety reasons – not to mention everything is more fun as a group. The risks are all yours I’m afraid – but so are the benefits associated with helping others.
3.6 What if I need to go on vacation or simply take a break?
Once registered you have to the option to put your account on hold, turning your availability on and off at anytime. We all need a break. Maybe curl up with a good book and a cup of cocoa?
3.8 Anything else I can do to help?
No. You’ve done enough. Well, since you asked - maybe help spread the good word? Just tell friends, family and neighbours that we exist. We need to know about others who may need help, others who are willing to shovel. Social media, community groups, social clubs, the guy sitting next to you at the bus stop ... the only way this works is if people hear about us and I just officially made you an ambassador.
Oh, and before we go ... thanks, we really appreciate it.
